As we reviewed the more
than 120 applications for our guest studio of the Working
Commune of the Zürich Sculptors (AZB)
there was one that attracted special attention.
The age and the photograph of the candidate did not quite match.
He was by far the oldest and, at the same time, the youngest
applicant.
His works and their presentation had us curious. We did not
know, nevertheless, how the elder gentleman will find his way
around on our premises.
The brave are rewarded – Rafi Münz was, from the first to the
very last day of his (5 months) residency, an immense enriching
to our
association – his open and direct
being and his young spirit had us all drawn in. Within a short
time his studio was filled with new interesting works
and we have been watching admiringly, how in no time, he easily
established contacts with a variety of people..
At the opening of one of his exhibitions in our venue, two
gentlemen in traditional Swiss attire, equipped with Alp-horns,
inquired where they
could find the Israeli artist; they would like to honor him with
an "opening blow" – this visit was so unexpected and magical,
and yet so very typical for
Rafi Münz, who met them during a walk in the area and simply
invited them to his opening.
I, as president, and surely in the name of all us artists of the
AZB association, can only recommend Rafi warmly, being sure that
he will make
full use of the chance offered to him.
